To make a long story short (if it’s possible!), as I understand it, the resurrection and the Easter Bunny were two separate celebrations. The Germens introduced the pagan Easter Bunny celebration in the 18th century when they settled down in Pennsylvania Dutch county in the US. This being said, Easter comes from the Teutonic goddess Eostra, goddess of fertility – her symbol being the rabbit and the hare for their exponential reproduction rate! Makes sense right? The only link between Jesus and the Easter Bunny would be the resurrection and the egg (a symbol of life), therefore validating the idea of birth, rebirth and the resurrection! BUT who has ever heard of rabbits laying down eggs!!!???? I don’t know WHO put the two together but they certainly didn’t have the rabbits we have today!!!! There is said to be a legend about a rabbit that laid eggs and hid them in the garden which is why children today still go on Easter egg hunts! How all this makes any sense, I’ll never really know!
Now that you know about Jesus’ resurrection and the Easter Bunny, I though about making you smile a bit. Here are scary Easter Bunny pictures taken from the Ellen Degeneres Show. A real rabbit is adorable, we all agree. Take it out of context and enlarge it 100 times and this is what you get!!! Who ever thought a giant rabbit was cute???? No wonder the children are terrified!
You have to watch this. It is quite funny!
I hope you had a good laugh everyone!
